The non-profit seeks help to help the homeless and their pets.

Carson City, Nev. (KOLO) – Homelessness in the United States is at an all-time high and ‘Feeding Pets of the Homeless’ is asking everyone to help pets and their humans who are experiencing homelessness.

Feeding the Pets of the Homeless is the first national non-profit organization dedicated to caring for the permanent companions of those experiencing homelessness. Since its founding in 2008, Feeding Pets of the Homeless has saved thousands of animals by providing more than 2 million pounds of food and nearly $5 million in veterinary care.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, homelessness is up 12 percent,” said Genevieve Frederick, founder and president of Feeding Pets, adding that the need for help is greater than ever.

“Last year we received more than 40,000 calls for help and provided life-saving veterinary care and food for nearly 2,000 pets facing homelessness with our humans,” Frederick said.

According to Frederick, Feeding the Homeless Pets receives no support from the government and relies on individual donations and grants to fund its mission.

“Without the individual donors who reach out of their hearts to help the pets of the homeless, we wouldn’t exist and the pets would suffer,” she added.
