The Louisiana Pet Food Bank is in desperate need of cat, dog food donations to help families in need.

Gonzales, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Pet Food Bank in Gonzales is desperately seeking donations of dog food, cat food, cat litter and flea repellants.

Rescue Alliance founder Jonathan Henriques said the need for pet food is even greater this year.

“We usually do about 50 families per month in a slow month. You know, sometimes it’s one, you know, it’s up to about 300 per month,” Henriques said.

With the year just beginning, Henriques says the pet food bank is in desperate need of donations. Right now, she said, the pet food bank has many requests pending, especially as people recover financially from the holidays.

“We’re actually getting more requests and actually less donations. Right now, we’re in dire need of dog food, cat food, wet and dry,” Henriques said.

The application asks for identification cards, animal eating habits and photos of pets, with no income requirement. According to Henriques, this resource is available to Louisiana residents, and is useful for many families.

Henriques hopes the community will come together, before it’s too late.

“We don’t help them. They are at high risk of being turned over to animal shelters, which are already overcrowded or starving around the country. And we want to make sure that every pet gets Got food,” Henriques said.

  • Rescue Alliance at 12484 Hwy 44 in Gonzales.
  • Petstar Animal Care at 38432 W Airline Drive in Prairieville.
