Music and pets are welcome at North Park Cafe.

Pinky’s Cafe, a new pet-friendly coffee shop in North Park, combines its owners’ love of animals and music.

Pinky’s founder Aaliyah Henderson, owner of San Diego Affordable Spay, Neuter and Dental Clinic, is a former aspiring singer who wanted to create a coffee shop that welcomes animals, musicians and community creators.

“I’m hoping to bring the community together and have a place where people can come to meet, be inspired and help animals,” Henderson said.

The cafe at 2864 University Avenue is named after Henderson’s late rescue dog, a pit bull, which he had for 15 years.

Pinky’s in Vista offers coffee drinks made with beans from Cosmic Bloom Coffee and matcha lattes with matcha from Coffee and Tea Collective.

Among the best-selling specialty drinks are pinkies made with espresso, milk, rose and honey. Mocktails and pastries are also on the menu, with avocado toast and other treats in the works.

Next year, Henderson plans to add a Pinky’s Cafe house blend made with coffee beans from an organic farm in Pereira, Colombia.

The cafe has indoor seating and a pet-friendly patio in the back, which features live music once a month.

Henderson said he plans to expand the musical offerings and hopes to open up space for musicians to rehearse and perform on site.

Pinky’s also hosts pet adoption events, with the next event scheduled for December 16.

Since joining North Park, Henderson said, she has fallen in love with the community, diversity and variety of family-owned small businesses.

Pinky’s Cafe is open Wednesday and Thursday from 9am to 1pm and Friday to Sunday from 7:30am to 3pm.
