SALEM, W.Va. (WBOY) — As winter approaches many people choose to stay indoors where it’s warm, but it’s important that your four-legged friends stay warm this winter, too. put it.
12 News visited the Doddridge County Humane Society (DCHS) to hear about the importance of keeping your dogs warm while outside. A great way to do this is to start by laying straw in their doghouses.
“A good thing to put in is straw, not hay. Straw won’t give you mold, it won’t mold, and it’s warm. It insulates because it has a lot of air in it. There are spaces, and the air gets in there and heats it up. So, straw is good, some people like to put some kind of little electric heating pad type thing for their dog house. There’s a lot of things you can do. “Yes, towels and blankets alone don’t really do much, but straw is probably your best bet. Some type of bedding that’s going to be able to keep the insulation in there,” said DCHS Executive Director Deborah Casteel.
Casteel wants to remind people to check the straw every week, and if it’s not crisp and dry, it needs to be replaced.
