ARLINGTON, VA — The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is hoping to find foster homes for its animals at the shelter during the holiday season.
For AWLA’s Home for the Holidays program, foster families must be able to pick up a pet from the shelter by Saturday, December 23rd and keep the animal in their home until at least January 5th.
“If you’re staying in town for the holidays and have extra space in your home, you can adopt a dog, cat, or small companion animal and give them plenty of breaks from their kennels during the holidays. are!” AWLA said.
The shelter will provide basic supplies to foster families, but other items will need to be purchased by the foster family. Items provided by AWLA are:
- Dogs: food, leash, use.
- Cats: food, bowls, litter box, litter, bed, toys.
- Small companion animals: enclosure, food, hay and care fresh bedding, litter box, enrichment items, bowls.
Foster families must live in Virginia, Maryland, or DC, and cannot travel outside the area with their foster pets.
Foster families will be matched with pets on a first-come, first-served basis.
Families interested in keeping a pet at home during the holiday program should. Fill out the AWLA application form. And then come to the shelter on your chosen date to meet with a pet.
Families who choose to adopt their foster pet at the end of the foster period will receive a 50 percent discount on their adoption fee, AWLA said.
