Firefighters rescue a pet cat at the 14th structure fire this week.

Columbia, Mo. (KMIZ)

Firefighters were able to save a cat from a house fire Sunday afternoon.

The Columbia Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 1500 block of Citadel Drive around 2 a.m. Sunday. It was the 14th structure fire in Boone County this week, according to dispatch records.

Firefighters say the fire started in the master bedroom. A cat was resuscitated at the scene, but no one was injured.

Smoke damage from second floor window.

Cpt Ryan Adams with Columbia Fire said the cause of the fire won’t be known for at least a day.

“We seem to be able to place the fire damage in the original room, which was a bedroom on the second floor.” Adams said. “We removed a cat that was then resuscitated and is currently back with the home owners.”
