MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – A pet did not survive a trailer fire that destroyed a Manhattan home on Saturday, January 20th.
Raleigh Company Fire District #1 Crews were reportedly called to a fire in the Hunter Island area, south of Manhattan, at 7:15 p.m. The fire district says that once they arrived, the trailer was “close to several other buildings and structures.” caught fire.”
A dog died in the fire. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but crews do not suspect foul play. The trailer home was deemed a total loss.
“With temperatures in the single digits, prolonged cold and slick conditions made things difficult. Our crews did an excellent job of containing the fire and working efficiently in the original building,” explained Deputy Chief John Martinez. “While unfortunately one pet was lost, we are thankful that no other citizens were injured, and no one was inside the structure at the time of the fire.”
Three and a half hours after extinguishing the fire, the fire brigade personnel remained at the scene.
