3 pets survive, 1 dead in East Texas house fire

HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas – Three pets survived and one died after a house fire in Henderson County Sunday night.

According to Payne Springs Fire and Rescue, firefighters responded to a lake house fire in Indian Harbor just before 8 p.m. Crews found flames coming from the roof. A person at the home said four pets were trapped inside.

After fighting the fire and searching the residence, all four pets were found. However, one cat died. Payne Springs Fire and Rescue said two dogs and another pet were ready to be treated by a vet. Animals were administered oxygen at the scene.

The Red Cross was notified to assist the residents, who were not injured. None of the firefighters were injured, the fire department said.

The following departments assisted in the response: Gun Barrel City Fire, Eustis Fire, Mabank Fire, Log Cabin Fire, Keene City Fire, and Malakoff Fire.
