$20,000 Better Cities for Pets grant to China Animal Shelter

The Cheyenne Animal Shelter is pleased to announce its selection as one of five cities nationwide to receive a $20,000 BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ grant to implement its Business Partnership Program. This community-wide initiative aims to increase the number of pet-friendly businesses and promote pet-friendly housing in the region.

The Business Partnership Program provides participating businesses with the tools necessary to develop as pet-friendly enterprises, including clear signage, access to a resource library, marketing opportunities, and tangible assets such as watering cans and Pet waste bags. Additionally, it establishes a comprehensive directory of pet-friendly businesses, accessible on the shelter’s website and featured in ePet Prints newsletters and adoption packets.

“As a dog owner myself, I know how pets contribute to the well-being of their owners,” said Mayor Patrick Collins. “The Cheyenne Animal Shelter’s Business Partnership Program will support businesses in our community that choose to allow pets and improve the lives of pets and their owners throughout Cheyenne.”

Pet ownership is an important contributor to the local economy. Through retail, veterinary, and other pet-related services, an individual animal contributes $12,357 to the local economy over its lifetime. By promoting a pet-friendly community, the Business Partnership Program aims to attract new businesses and residents, contribute to economic development, increase consumer spending, and enhance community health.

Cheyenne Animal Shelter CEO Brittany Tennant said, “We are honored to be selected as a Better Cities recipient for a PETS™ grant. Our commitment goes beyond accommodating our beloved companions; It’s about promoting economic growth, attracting new ventures, and enhancing the overall well-being of our community. The Cheyenne Animal Shelter Business Partnership Program powered by BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ is our path to a future where inclusion and prosperity go hand in hand.
